At this luncheon (Brown Bag), Professor Liu Xiaoyuan, deputy dean of the Business School, had in-depth face-to-face exchanges with doctoral students, gained a detailed understanding of the challenges encountered by the students in academic research and daily life, and proposed a series of guiding suggestions and solutions in order to better improve the education and management of doctoral students of the Business School and provide effective assistance to the students. The students actively expressed their concerns and confusions, mainly related to doctoral workstations, difficulty of graduation with a Ph.D., arrangement of transactional activities, course load reduction and compression, dissertation guidance, employment choice, and overseas study visits and so on.
Regarding the issue of doctoral workstations, the Business School’s leaders stated that they would continue to strive to provide more comfortable and convenient learning and working conditions for doctoral students. In terms of the graduation difficulty that doctoral students are concerned about, the Business School will utilize more resources to support their academic research and provide substantial assistance for the students to successfully complete their studies. In addition, the students also mentioned the issue of transactional activities and course load. The Business School’s leaders stated that they would further optimize the arrangement of transactional activities, reduce the unnecessary burden on doctoral students, and explore effective burden reduction plans to ensure that the students could better focus on academic research. Thesis counseling is also one of the common concerns of the students. In this regard, the Business School indicated that it would continue to improve the arrangement of the “supervisor group” and provide the students with more personalized and professional scientific research guidance around topic selection, methods and other aspects. Regarding employment choices, the Business School will launch a series of practical career development resources in the form of lectures, experience sharing sessions and 1V1 offline tutoring, etc. to help the students successfully step into career. In addition, regarding the issue of studying abroad, the Business School’s leaders encouraged the students to make more use of international academic conference platforms and opportunities to expand their personal international horizons and make flexible choices based on their own interests and abilities. The Business School will provide necessary support and guidance.
This luncheon (Brown Bag) didn’t not only reflect the Business School’s concern and practical actions towards the students, but also provide the students with opportunities to express their personal needs and difficulties, and promote in-depth exchanges between the Business School’s leaders and the students.
