On the afternoon of June 27, 2023, the Business School held the Fourteenth Session of Academic Forum Series Lectures of Excellence 2023 of the Business School for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the of Business and the MBA Education Center in Conference Room 615 of the Main Teaching Building of the Xueyuan South Road Campus and online via Tencent Meeting. This lecture featured Dr. Zhi Bangdong, an assistant professor from the University of Bristol in the UK. Approximately thirty participants, including faculty members, doctoral students, master's students, and undergraduates from our School, attended the event.
The conference was hosted by Professor Liu Xiaohong from the Department of Supply Chain and Operations Management at the Business School. At the start of the conference, Professor Liu Xiaohong introduced Dr. Zhi Bangdong to the faculty and students. Dr. Zhi Bangdong earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bristol in the UK and his master's degree from the Business School, Central University of Finance and Economics. He is currently an assistant professor in operations management analytics at the University of Bristol Business School and serves as a doctoral supervisor. His research focuses on supply chain finance, supply chain risk management, platform economy, and electric vehicle services. His research findings have been published in many international journals, including IISE Transactions, European Journal of Operational Research, Computers and Operations Research, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, and International Journal of Production Economics. Additionally, Dr. Zhi Bangdong serves as a reviewer for the aforementioned journals and several other international journals.
The topic of Dr. Zhi Bangdong's lecture was “Developing Capabilities for Supply Chain Resilience in a Post-COVID World: A Machine Learning-Based Thematic Analysis.” This research, grounded in theoretical knowledge and expert prior knowledge, classified and analyzed 1717 academic papers on supply chain resilience sourced from the Scopus database (2000-2022). It then verified the validity of the classification using machine learning methods. Based on this, the study proposed three capabilities to enhance supply chain resilience (i.e., connectedness, convertibility, and shareability). It pointed out that in the post-pandemic era, to build more resilient supply chains, enterprises should strengthen the improvement of these three capabilities.
After the sharing session, Dr. Zhi Bangdong engaged in active interaction and discussion with the faculty and students on topics such as machine learning methods, research theme classification, submission, and how to respond to reviewers' comments, having further deepened the academic exchange.
