The Sixth Session of Academic Forum of Excellence 2023 of the Business School for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the Business School and the MBA Education Center Successfully Organized
On the morning of June 05, 2023, the Business School held the Sixth Session of Academic Forum of Excellence 2023 of the Business School for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the Business School and the MBA Education Center in Conference Room 615 of the Main Teaching Building of the Xueyuan South Road Campus of Central University of Finance and Economics. This lecture features Professor Pavel Castka, Professor and Deputy Head of Research at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, as the keynote speaker. More than twenty people, including faculty, doctoral students, master students, and undergraduates, participated in this event.
Associate Professor Qian Cheng from the Department of Supply Chain and Operations Management under the Business School presided over this lecture. Professor Pavel Castka, Deputy Head of Research at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, is a leading expert in supply chain management and sustainability. Professor Pavel Castka is a member of multiple committees within the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is currently researching stakeholder participation in agricultural monitoring and the social-technical perspective of agricultural enterprises' use of satellite and automated monitoring technologies. He has published over 50 articles in top-tier supply chain management journals such as the International Journal of Operations & Production Management (IJOPM) and the International Journal of Production Economics (IJPE).
Professor Castka's lecture was on “The impact of remote sensing on environmental monitoring in supply chains.” Professor Castka discussed how the use of remote sensing technology can facilitate the automation of key sustainability indicators, leading to (semi-)automated monitoring. He highlighted that remote sensing offered opportunities for supply chain enterprises and governments to adopt new technologies and redesign their methods for monitoring and reporting environmental performance. This research is significant for both the theoretical and practical aspects of supply chain management innovation in the context of environmental monitoring.
Upon completion of the sharing, the attendees, including faculty members and students, engaged in a lively discussion and exchange of ideas on topics such as the cost-effectiveness of remote sensing technology, farmer behavior, and data sources, in relation to Professor Castka's lecture topic.
