The Fifth Session of Academic Forum of Excellence 2023 of the Business School for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the Business School and the MBA Education Center Successfully Organized

On the morning of May 25, 2023, the Business School held the Fifth Session of Academic Forum of Excellence 2023 of the Business School for the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the Business School and the MBA Education Center in Conference Room 615 of the Main Teaching Building of the Xueyuan South Road Campus. The lecture invited Associate Professor Hou Pengwen from the College of Management Science and Engineering, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics as the keynote speaker. More than twenty people, including faculty, doctoral students, master students, and undergraduates, participated in this event.

Associate Professor Lu Jizhou from the Department of Supply Chain and Operations Management under the Business School presided over this lecture. Mr. Hou Pengwen, associate professor and master supervisor of the College of Management Science and Engineering, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, is now the council member of Tianjin Industrial Engineering Society and the member of the Special Committee on CSIAM Blockchain. His principal research interests include the competition and cooperation game of supply chain, the research on the integration of blockchain and supply chain, etc. He presided over one project-in-progress funded by the NSFC Youth Science Foundation and the Youth Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education, respectively; moreover, he presided over the completion of one Science and Technology Development Strategy Research Project of Tianjin. Mr. Hou published two papers in Production and Operations Management (UTD 24, FT 50), an internationally recognized top journal in the field of logistics supply chain; moreover, he published over 20 articles in top journals like EJOR (ABS 4 stars), IEEE-TEM (ABS 3 stars), TRE (ABS 3 stars), IJPR (ABS 3 stars), Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, etc. Mr. Hou acts as the editorial board member for Decision Sciences, flagship journal of the U.S. Decision Science Institute, as well as the anonymous reviewer for over 10 key journals at home and abroad such as POM, EJOR, NRL, IEEE-TEM, TRE, and IJPR. In 2022, he won the Outstanding Reviewer Award from the Journal of the Operational Research Society, an ABS 3-star Journal.

The topic of Mr. Hou's lecture was "How to combat or help supplier encroachment in global supply chains," where a game theoretical model was used to probe into how to counter or help supplier encroachment in global supply chains. Manufacturers who sell their products to emerging markets need to complete a number of production tasks. They may choose to make products in-house or outsource all or part of their production from suppliers in emerging markets. The former method is more costly, while the latter exposes the manufacturer's intellectual property (IP) to the risk of plagiarism by suppliers. Various supply chain actors, such as manufacturers, suppliers, and platform enterprises, may take different measures to deal with supplier intrusion from different perspectives.

Upon completion of sharing, the participating teachers and students had an active discussion and in-depth exchange on topics such as model specification, derivation technique, and submission experience on the topic of Mr. Hou's lecture.
