At 2:00 p.m., November 18, 2022, the Business School of Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) held the 18th Session of the Excellent Academic Forum Lecture Series in 2022 online through Tencent Meeting. Dr. Zhou Quan from the School of Business of the University of Wollongong was invited as the keynote speaker of this lecture, and more than 20 people (including teachers, master and doctoral students, and undergraduate students) attended this lecture.
Dr. Mou Shandong of the Department of Supply Chain and Operations Management of the Business School presided over this meeting and introduced Dr. Zhou Quan’s resume. Dr. Zhou Quan is currently a lecturer (assistant professor) at the School of Business of the University of Wollongong. In 2016, he received his PhD from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Before joining the University of Wollongong, he served as a lecturer at Massey University, New Zealand, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Auckland. Dr. Zhou Quan's main research interests are non-profit operations and supply chain & agricultural value chain research.
The topic of Dr. Zhou Quan’s lecture is “Modeling the Effects of Dated Medical Supplies Donation on Recipient Countries”. The research focuses on the donation of dated medical supplies. The international community has always been very cautious about such issues, and most of the concerns lie in the macro influence on recipient countries. This research focuses on the donation of personal protective equipment and similar products, because these products have lower risks related to aging and safety. With a given degree of security, this research simulates the incentive problems in the supply chain of donation of medical supplies, and predicts the potential consequences of corruption in these donations and their impact on local industries. The research findings show that the impact of these donations is not monotonically related to the quality of the donations. Thus, the international community is recommended to reconsider its position of prohibiting the donation of dated supplies. In addition, Dr. Zhou Quan shared valuable experience and suggestions on how to publish papers in authoritative journals during the paper submission process.
After the sharing, the attending teachers and students actively participated in the discussion about the topic of the lecture delivered by Dr. Zhou Quan, and Dr. Zhou Quan answered their questions in an enthusiastic manner, further deepening their academic exchanges.
